Bird Control

Birds can be a real problem for any business or home. Not only do they cause a mess, but they can also be a health hazard – and a little frightening especially when defending their nests.

Pigeons and gulls are normally the worst culprits, especially in towns and cities. Bird removal in these cases is made more difficult by a number of factors:

  1. Pigeons natural food is grain and seeds but they adapt to urban areas by scavenging processed food, such as discarded takeaways and food waste from dustbins.
  2. If they can find enough food pigeons can breed the whole year round, with a peak between March and July.
  3. Gulls will return year after year to the same nesting site, so once they’re established they’re hard to get rid of.
  4. Seagulls can live up to 40 years – during which time they can keep on breeding.

There are many ways in which birds can cause a nuisance. Not only are they noisy, messy and unhygienic but they can also give customers, staff and the general public a bad impression of your organisation.

Bird proofing can be particularly difficult when the problem affects surfaces like the face of buildings (in particular intricate, delicate or listed facades) , statues, monuments and signage. Bird proofing on historic and listed buildings requires sensitive work so as not to affect the building structure long term and to limit any change to the aesthetics of the property.

Spiking

One of the simplest ways to deter birds permanently is by using a Bird Point system. These are harmless and move birds on from favoured roosting sites so your business can carry on undisturbed. However they should only be used where ‘roosting’ and ‘resting’ occurs, not where nesting is taking place.

Our Bird Point system can be used to deter against roosting gulls as well as feral pigeons. However the system is not suitable for bird species smaller than the size of feral pigeons.

Netting

While most of us like to see birds around, it can be a very different matter when there are too many of them in the wrong place. Birds like pigeons, starlings, and seagulls can become a terrible nuisance if they’re allowed to congregate on business premises.

We have netting and wire deterrents that can help move birds away from your property without harm.
